About BHC	English (USA)
The Advocates for the Burton Historical Collection list was established in November 2000. We are a group of historians, genealogists, librarians, and archivists concerned with the future of this wonderful collection. This email list is dedicated to discussing ways to protect and preserve this endangered historical and genealogical collection at the Detroit Public Library. To learn more about our concerns please see the report of the Detroit Auditor General about alleged financial improprieties at the Detroit Public Library. You can also view our report on the abuse of the Burton Endowment Fund. Lastly, you can read the original agreements Mr. Clarence M. Burton made with the Detroit Public Library. You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these files. Although the library administration has taken some steps in the right direction to fix a few of these issues, we have in general been dissapointed with the progress. We continue to keep a constant watch on them. As most of the abuses occured during the tenure of the current members of the Detroit Library Commission, we are seeking their resignation and replacement with a reform commission.
