From dulongj at habitant.org Mon May 10 07:23:43 2004 From: dulongj at habitant.org (John P. DuLong) Date: Mon May 10 07:22:37 2004 Subject: [BHC] New Scanner at the BHC Message-ID: Hello All, I have been away from home and negligent in passing on some good information. Thanks to the kindness of the DAR, the Burton Historical Collection now has a new scanner, which I understand is installed and functional. I do not know which DAR chapter contributed the $5,000 for the scanner, perhaps one of you do know and will share the name of the chapter with all of us. The scanner cost $7,500, and the difference was made up by the Friends of the Burton Historical Collection. Although I have not yet seen the scanner, I understand it runs beautifully. I do not know the operational procedures involving the scanner, given the cost of the machine, I suspect the Burton staff will have to make the scans for you. This is an excellent example of how the Friends of the Burton Historical Collection can leverage a donation and enhance it. If you have not year joined the Friends of the Burton Historical Collection, then I would urge you to do so. Anything you donate to the Friends of the Burton Historical Collection will go to the Burton. You can join by contacting the Friends of the Detroit Public Library, there web site is at http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/friends/. This new scanner is indeed good news. Regards, JP John P. Thank you ladies. Also, this is not really a scanner, but apparently a microfilm copier, which has been desperately needed for some time to replace the defecting machines. Take care, JP John P.
