However, I thought I should share this announcement. The Burton Historical Collection is sponsoring a free Family History Festival on Saturday 30 September 2006. Point your browser to http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/events/FamilyHistory_Festival.htm to learn more. I assume as more information becomes available it will be posted to this site or the Detroit Society for Genealogical Research website at http://www.dsgr.org/. This is a joint effort on the part of several local genealogical societies and the Burton Historical Collection. The new director, Mark Patrick, whom I have never met, seems to be trying to meet the genealogical community half way. This is a good move and will hopefully repair some of the damage caused by the usage fee and other feeble administrative decisions made by the Detroit Library Commission. So play nice, go to the festival, enjoy. I will not be going because I am grumpy, but I wish success to the festival, to the participating societies, and to the Burton Historical Collection and Mr. Patrick. JP John P. I too wish to extend a warm welcome to all interested parties. The Detroit Public Library Friends Foundation is honored to be sponsoring this day long program working with the Burton Historical Collection and the DSGR. It promises to be an engaging day for both the "seasoned" and novice genealogists. Patrice R.
