OMIGOD!! Take a frigging pill people! It was a joke... I wouldn't know University of Michigan or Michigan State University if they landed on my head. Lighten up... life's too short for this crap.
If anyone is upset by what I said or am saying now, don't bother responding. I don't need the aggravation if this is the way people take a joke.
I graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa... it's been referred to as "Cartoon U" as well as "Hog's Back High" and I haven't blathered on about people making fun of my alma mater. There's more important things to get worked up about... my day was certainly going better before I read this email.

I think it's very petty for U of M supporters to bash MSU. We should all be supportive of the excellent colleges and universities in our state. Our high school graduates have so many choices, without going out of state and paying additional fees, to get a good education. I attended Michigan State College for two years some time ago but I was very proud to cheer for U of M in a Rose Bowl game when they beat Washington. I was visiting my Marine Son and the Marines were given tickets as both end zones were empty. Where were the real U of M fans? In fact, I always cheer for U of M unless they are playing MSU. Can you obnoxious U of M supporters ever cheer for MSU?
Wayne State has used some of the history professors from MSU for lecturers at their annual History Conference, so MSU must have some merit in this area. Look up the history of the Michigan State. It was formed as a "land grant college and has served our state well.
We need to concentrate on the original message from John. In my opinion, it would be a great idea if each of us collectively could find a way to get the Burton Collection out of DPL to a neutral location, possibly the State Library. If that is impossible, at least get rid of the fee. I have been researching at DPL since 1967 but would be willing to drive the extra miles, even if it went to U of M.
