Hello Folks,

I was told that at the 30 September 2006 Family History Festival at the
Detroit Public Library that we would be allowed to use the Burton Historical
Collection without paying a non-resident fee. However, I was warned that
this is not the case by one of the Burton patrons. I checked the DPL
website and found the following statement:

PLEASE NOTE: As part of the Family History Festival, the Burton Reading
Room will be the site of several presentations and tours. Reference
service, therefore, will not be available. The room will be open for public
browsing, whenever presentations are not in session.

This is posted at
http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/events/graphics/FHF%20Schedule.doc, which is
the schedule of events.

So be warned that if you planned on going down to the Burton on the 30th,
you will not be able to really use it effectively.

Logistically, I can understand why they had to make this decision. They
just do not have the staffing and it would be hard to host events in the
Burton and service people simultaneously. Nevertheless, I understand that
this will be a disappointment for some of you.

Regards,

JP
