Someone wrote me asking what was I doing sending out the URLs on surname sites so for those who did not get or read my message of Sept. 19th, here it is again.
I am the unoffical URL updater for the Society. I don't know about the rest of you but it is frustrating when you find a link, click on it and it is wrong!
I am trying to get the various websites which have incorrect links of info on us to correct it. Using Google there are over 1,000 sites which mention the Society so it will take time, not to mention that some of the sites themselves are no longer maintained. Only a few of the people are acknowledging my messages, so I will eventually have to go through the list to see if updates have been made or not.
The thing is that the majority of sites that mention us are wrong. We need to get these corrected, if you run across a listing of the French-Canadian Heritage Society of Michigan and it is wrong would you please give them the correct info or send the URL on to me and I will contact them.
Also, just for fun, and since I have nothing better to do with my life, I have checked some of the other links on these sites and there are a number that are no longer valid, so I am also collecting all valid French-Canadian SURNAME sites (at this time not interested in ALL the other catagories).
If you would like to contribute a site send it on to me, I am putting them alphabetical by surname and will post them on the mailing list. Some of the sites have large numbers of surnames and they are going under a general listing but some specialize in just a few surnames and will be cross indexed under those names.
Thanks in advance for your help and input. Jim.
They also wanted to know if these were FCHSM member sites. I do not know, two people have sent me their webpages and some of the names I do recognize as having been members but I do not know about all of them.
Are these random websites I have found - yes generally, some are ones I have collected over the years (a number of which have disappeared or moved), some have been concentrated searches and some I am just stumbling across.
Again, thanks, Jim
