As I was not involved with the project to revise this important work, I
would hope that someone else on the list could give Ms. Palmer accurate
details. I recall that some of our FCHSM members were very active in the
revision process, but I was under the impression that this was still a
Detroit Society for Genealogical Research project and I would assume that
that fine organization has the submitted data.

Subject: [FCHSM] French Families of the Detroit River Region

I recently looked through the 1987 revision of French Families of the
Detroit River Region and found that three of my family lines are included:
Payet, Douillet, and Dandurand. The listing for John Baptist Payet, my
4th great grandfather, contains the information he settled in Detroit c.
1830 (page 945 of the 1987 revision). I'd like other list member opinions
regarding the 1830 date being an assumption made by Fr. Denissen in the
original book perhaps based on the marriage dates of John Baptist's children
or from some other source?

Thinking there could be other family information submitted during the 1987
revision or from the original, I contacted the Burton Collection to see if I
could view the 1987 submissions and was told to contact FCHS! I checked
our member surnames of interest and did not locate anyone other than myself
researching Payet. Would anyone know if it is possible to view the
original submissions/notes and also those from 1987?

As I am a new member and unsure if this book has been discussed during our
meetings, perhaps my questions will serve as a reminder to other new members
that Burton will accept gladly updates to the French Families of the Detroit
River Region for future revisions. I plan to submit an update to these
French Canadians of mine in the near future.

Thanks.

Sue Palmer
