You are correct... They were not Native or Métis.

In my database I have
Jacques SAUVAGE baptized 1676 St-Sauveur-de-Paris, Ile-de-France
and both of Catherine JEAN's parents born in France

Some people tend to list their ancestors with whatever name, language or label they find. Some cannot understand that genealogy works forward. They are so used to trying to find backwards that they cannot see forward.

I'm not saying whether any of their descendants married Native or Métis. That is always a possibility, but these two sisters weren't. Some people may have found a Native connection in their descendants and since most --- if not all --- Native research ends in that line as soon as you find the Native link, they continue listing their non-Native ancestry.

I don't read French but it has been my understanding that Marie Anne and Marie Francoise Sauvage were not of Indian descent. Their parents were Jacques Sauvage and Marie Catherine Jean. Jacques was born in France as were Marie Catherine's parents.

However, everywhere on the Internet, I see them designated as Metis or Indian.

  Have I missed something????

  Thanks,

  Lynn Thomas
