[FCHSM] Descendants of soldiers in the French and Indian Wars,

Thanks, Al. I note that my fingers (as you well know) do not always obey my intention. The battle of Ste. Foy took place in April of 1760, not in 1761. Had ships from France subsequently arrived before ships from Great Britain reached the St. Laurent, who knows...

I did some quick scanning and note that the inhabitants as far as Kamouraska (the home of J. B. Ouellette) were advised, in May of 1759, to flee with their wives and animals to seek protection at Pointe-Lévis or in the woods. (Lanctot, Vol. 3, p. 166) Eccles says 1400 farms were destroyed up and down the river from Québec City. (France in America, p. 213.)

  Suzanne

I think that's an excellent analysis, Suzanne, of Dan's interesting hypothesis (to use your words). We are indeed fortunate to have people like you and Dan contributing to our knowledge of our French-Canadian heritage.
