I own the St. Pierre book, Dan, and I have also read, quite awhile ago, of the contingent of individuals that you mention going to Detroit, most probably on the Library and Archives (Ottawa) website, http://www.collectionscanada.ca/ through the Archivia search engine. I did not mention it earlier because I couldn't trust my memory.

I'll see what I can reconstruct when I get the chance.

    Thanks Suzanne!

Earlier this summer, I came across an interesting work entitled "The History of Canadians in Michigan and Essex County" by St. Pierre, published in 1895. One can find this on Canadiana.com in the original French. St. Pierre states that a number of French veterans from the Seven years war settled in Essex county and started homesteading there. I have also come across some reports of the disposition of troops from Ft. Duqusne which I am trying to verify. From primary source information, some of these troops originally came from Quebec. With the approach of Forbes army, they destroyed Ft. Duqusne and withdrew westward to other posts in Ohio, with provisional plans to return to the headwaters of the Ohio river the following year. When this plan didn't materialize, I have read (and as I said, I am trying to verify) that a contigent of these troops withdrew to Fort Detroit/Ponchatrain. Interesting for sure!
