I would have to defend Tanguay. He was the Pioneer in French-Canadian genealogical research. Though we all know that his work contains errors and that the information we find in it must be double checked and verified, the LeBoeuf complement/supplement has gone a long way to alleviate that problem. Also, Tanguay had access to a number of sources that are no longer extant and thus he can often provide important insight in helping solve problems.

Furthermore, our experience now shows that Jetté's work is not quite so perfect as we had once thought it to be. Denis Beauregard has done a lot of work to correct and update Jetté and we are much indebted to him for that work.

In my opinion, both Tanguay and Jetté, if properly used, can be regarded as excellent secondary sources.  But I must agree with you completely that PRDH certainly should be included as probably the best secondary source available today.

Just my opinion,

Have fun,

Al Trudeau
